Roughed Up Florals

Roughed Up Floral Header

Spring is obviously ubiquitous with flowers.  They’re everywhere in real life, as well as on the clothes that you see in the stores.  After this past winter beat-down, everyone is ready for something a little lighter and brighter.  Trading in my shapeless winter parkas and Welly boots for something a tad more feminine and fitted is not a bad thing either!  See… look, YES, I DO have a waist!

Historically, I’ve stayed away from floral patterns because they’ve always been a little too “sweet” for my taste.  My style skews a little more edgy than the blooms and buds allow when left on their own.  There is definitely a trick to pulling off floral patterns without looking like you just popped out of a “Little House on the Prairie” rerun, or better yet, Grandma’s ancient wallpaper.  Lean in and listen closely… you take those pretty florals and you rough them up!  Yes, you heard me.  Rough those dainty flowers up with some leather, some denim, some studs and zippers.  It’s an unexpected twist and a great way to incorporate basics you probably already own in your closet.

It’s really as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Step #1, select a great floral patterned dress in your most flattering silhouette.

Step #2, top off said floral dress with an edgy jacket.

Step #3, accessorize with metallic spikes, studs, zips and stones.

If you still need to be convinced, here are 6 great spring floral ensembles that have been stripped of saccharine sweetness and infused with a whole lot of cool:
