Consider the holidays a “shot” of joy. Unfortunately, for many of us, stress is the “chaser.”
Cheers! L’Chaim! Kampai! Cin-Cin! Salud!
Whether it’s the amped intensity of our environment (crowded stores, gridlocked roads, angry drivers, etc.), the growing list of social engagements and personal commitments, the money spent, or just the winter blues (pitch dark at 4:30pm? already!?), we all probably need to take a deep breath and simply exhale. AHHHHHhhhhh…. Feel better yet? Nah, me either.
As much as holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year, it also can be the most stressful. Trust me, I know. I’ve never been the coolest cucumber when it comes to dealing with stressful situations (my husband will concur), so I’ve tried to put together a system that will help me recenter myself when things go a little off-balance.
STEP #1: RELEASE
For me, release = spin class or the occasional yoga. Find a physical activity that lets you tune out the world and turn in the attention on yourself.
STEP #2: RECOVER
In our rushed day-to-day lives, it’s hard enough squeezing in a quick shower sometimes, let alone a whole spa ritual! On those days/nights when I need some pampering, it’s especially luxurious to allow my body to recover from head-to-toe using only the best bath and beauty products.
STEP #3: RELAX
Once I’m all “beautified” and moisturized, nothing is better than a quiet lounging session wrapped in soft cashmere, catching up on two of my favorite reads. A scented burning candle only further transports me. The only thing better are my most favorite, most fudgy, most delicious brownie treats from Fat Witch Bakery in NYC, so why not throw those in as well!? Whatever works, right?
How do YOU keep “the most wonderful time of the year” from turning into the most stressful time of the year?
