Chic + Comfortable Thanksgiving Outfit

Putting my NYC PACKING GUIDE together the other day got me thinking about next week’s Thanksgiving celebration and obviously, what to wear.

Thanksgiving is definitely not the dressiest of holidays, but no matter how casual the setting we all want to look nice and feel out best when seeing family and friends we may not have seen in quite a while.

Oh, and here’s a random and cool fact: Did you know that Thanksgiving-Eve is THE busiest bar night of the year!?

(You can find the recipe for this delicious cranberry margarita HERE!)

Apparently, the thought of spending too much time with your family may drive you to drink. In my hometown, it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll be taking part in an unplanned high school reunion the minute you step into one of the local bars.

So obviously, you gotta look good.

Whether for the big Turkey Day or the bar-night before, here’s the style game plan: a wrap dress.

Yes, the wrap dress. Perhaps one of the most iconic silhouettes that flatters and fits practically every figure out there. DIANE VON FURSTENBERG created a fashion empire with her wrap dress in the 1970’s and the style is definitely here to stay.

Why?! Well, for starters it enhances a woman’s figure with it’s plunging v-neck, defined waist and a-line skirt. It’s also one of the more comfortable dress styles out there that has a bit of stretch and flexibility to adjust if you need just a tad bit more breathing room post-Thanksgiving dinner.

Food baby aside, the wrap dress is also a go-to style for colder weather as many versions can be found with long sleeves. Throw on a pair of tights with some high boots and not only are you party ready, but you’ll actually be warm too.

I’m bringing THIS dress along with me, but here are just a few more wrap dress styles I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection:

I love the leggings outfit you show also. Can you provide information about that also?

      Hi Sue! Thanks for reading!

I think you’re referring to the image with the red dress + boots? If so, that was an outfit I photographed for a post 2 years ago. You can go back into the archives and see the full post HERE along with a few more images. The dress is J.Crew and they release similar silhouettes in different colors/patterns each year, so you may be able to score something similar. The “leggings” are actually Target x Missoni tights from a limited edition collaboration a few years back. Aren’t they fun?! I still wear them.

      Hope that helps! XO, Stella
