Statement Necklace

When it comes to my jewelry I tend to favor delicate, understated pieces that can be layered easily to change up the look and make an impact.

Obviously, a girl can change her prerogative.

WHAT I’M WEARING:

Vince SWEATER (sold out, but THIS is similar for under $60!)// Zara FLARE JEANS // Vince PUMPS // Fairchild-Baldwin NECKLACE // Alexander Wang TOTE (old, but THIS is a similar style from the current collection)

I saw this FAIRCHILD-BALDWIN BELLA NECKLACE a few months ago at an A-LIST POP UP event and it immediately caught my eye. From the cool taupe color (“Mushroom” is the official name), to the modern leather magnetic clasp it was definitely a stand-out. I tried it on, played around with the styling and just kept thinking about it over the course of the weekend.

I loved how it was a modern reinterpretation of a traditional, multi-string necklace — something new out of something old. Even though it was a far cry from my usual go-to layered jewelry style, I knew this necklace had the ability to make a statement on its own. So I bought it…

…and I love it.

The Hearts Delight Statement Necklace

Working with bold, oversized accessories requires a bit of restraint. The rest of your look should be pared down to allow that accessory to do its job and actually make a statement. This soft cashmere sweater was the ideal canvas to make the necklace pop and become the focal point of the look. I kept the rest of the outfit minimal — FLARE JEANS, my most comfortable VINCE PUMPS and a large tote in a muted grey, croc-stamped leather.

This look was one of my packed outfits for the holiday weekend and I got so many compliments on what took 2 minutes to throw together! Score one for the lazy.

That necklace is gorgeous and for me would be a splurge. Will have to mull that one over. Re the Zara flares, have never bought from Zara so can you tell me how the sizing runs? Jeans are so tricky. I used to be a 2 but might be more of a 4 now with the shifting aging body. Ugh. Couldn’t tell on there sight, which is pretty minimalist, if they have free shipping. Also wish they had reviews posted. I find those helpful. Thanks for any advice and that is a beautiful and very cool simple outfit you are wearing. Like you, I embrace a neutral palette that features a lot of black.

Hi Jeanne — no doubt about it, the necklace is a splurge, but it’s something that is really unique that I hope to wear for a long time! It’s a compliment magnet.

As far as Zara sizing goes — I think for the denim it tends to run true to size, if not a bit small. I ordered a 26, which is the size I wear 90% of the time. The one thing about Zara you should know, is that the cuts overall tend to be narrow and LONG. I’m 5’9″ (34″ inseam) and the flares are perfect when I wear 3+” heels — if you’re on the petite side, I would caution you against this brand unless you are ok with bringing things into a tailor for hemming. Paige Denim makes a great pair of petite flares for those gals under 5’4″.

Zaras shipping is really quick — it’s free for orders over $50 with free returns. I heard rumors that a Zara is finally going into our area at Beachwood Place Mall! Finally.

      Hope that helps! XO, Stella

Thanks Stella, Zara at Beachwood would be great! I am 5’6″ and usually a 27 but I think I will steer clear of the flares since I am suspect they will be too long. Maybe I will try regular Paige. Will covet that necklace. I bet it is a compliment magnet!
