One of the best things about summer (aside from patio drinking, extended daylight hours, beach time, etc.) is the fact that summer styles are inherently less expensive than their cold weather counterparts. Whether that’s due to less physical material, less expensive textiles, or just cheaper fabrication — I’m not sure, but I’m definitely not complaining.
This morning I want to tackle some of what are sure to be this season’s biggest trends and show you how to successfully score those summer trends for less! While the designer versions can provide the inspiration, I’ve picked budget friendly dupes (all UNDER $100) to keep your patio cocktail fund intact.
Have you scooped up an off the shoulder top or dress yet? TIBI is probably the brand that comes to mind when thinking about this summer friendly style. A quick PINTEREST search reveals hundreds of street-style shots of this simple, poplin off-the-shoulder top — called the ‘NEO‘. At close to $300, it’s not exactly a shirt I’d run out to purchase (although I do love it so!). Luckily for us, there are alternatives!
Fringe + Poms
It should come as no surprise that fringe is still in play when it comes to summer style — is there anything more fun that a little swingy fringe for a night out? Well, actually… poms may give fringe a run for the money. I shared some of my favorite pom styles a few days back — you can read all about it HERE.
AQUAZZURA “WILD THING” might be the pioneer when it comes to nailing this trend — always imitated, never duplicated. However, if you’re not exactly in the mood to splurge on an $800 pair of shoes, I’ve got some amazing style dupes that will give you an identical look for way, way less!
Have you guys heard of MARYSIA SWIM? I started following the brand a few years ago and was obsessed with this simple swimwear. What made it so special? It was the unique scalloped edging detail! Unfortunately, the price tag was not exactly ideal. I have this thing against spending a fortune on swimsuits that will just get faded, worn and stretched after a season of wear and tear. Luckily for all of us, other designers have jumped on the scalloped edge bandwagon and we now have less expensive alternatives to meet all of our summer trend needs!
Pleats & Ruffles
For this summer’s iteration of the boho style, enter micro pleats and layers of ruffles. These floaty details will update any silhouette and help a dress or separates skim against the body without subtly masking any imperfections. The ruffles are a bit more traditional and feminine, while the structure of the micro pleats add a bit more modern edge — either option looks great, so pick the look that suits your personal style best!
First things first, stripes NEVER go out of style. They’re the most essential and versatile pattern you’ll find in a woman’s wardrobe. This summer, there’s been a collective movement by designers towards a vertical variety of striping inspired by traditional, men’s shirts. I’ve been seeing the thin, pale stripes make their way on everything from casual BOYFRIEND SHIRTS, to dresses and even wide leg trousers.
