Summer Beauty Favorites

summer_beauty_favorites_header

In theory, summer beauty should be about effortless ease… at least that’s what all of the magazines are selling with their bronzed and glowing model spreads.

In reality, summer beauty probably takes about 1000x more work and effort than any other beauty routine during the calendar year. From hair removal to sweat prevention, frizz control to faux tans, real summer beauty is way more complicated than we as consumers have been fooled to think.

Rather than dwell on the advertiser lies and deceptions, I want to share with you my own summer beauty favorites. While they involve a little bit of beauty elbow grease, the end result will be that “effortless ease” look we all crave when the weather gets hot.

1.  Giorgio Armani Luminessence CC Cream SPF35

Sunscreen is a MUST everyday and this GIORGIO ARMANI CC CREAM impresses with its SPF 35. It’s a sheer and hydrating formula that I apply to my face with a FOUNDATION BRUSH that gives me just the right amount of coverage to let my natural skin tone and freckles shine through.

On days I know I’m going to spending a lot of time outside, I’ll actually layer traditional sunscreen UNDER this CC cream to give me the protection I need. Better safe, than sorry – right?!

2.  Tan Towel

Since we’re talking about skin, let’s move onto tanning — faux tanning, of course. I’d been hearing about this product called TAN TOWEL for ages and at the encouragement of my sister-in-law finally decided to give them a shot.

OMG — total pale skin game changer! You simply unwrap a cloth towel and using an even circular motion wipe down your legs and any other part of your body that needs a bit of tan TLC. The application takes all of 2 minutes and the results are streak free, natural looking and unexpectedly flawless — even for this self-tanner misfit.

3.  Chanel Lévres Scintillantes Glossimer Lip Gloss

CHANEL GLOSSIMER just might be the OG of all lip gloss products. I’ve been using it for ages and still love it just as much (if not more) than I did when I first bought it. It’s not sticky, it’s not too sheer and it actually stays on for quite some time — as far as traditional lip glosses go.

I love a light rosy-pink lip (the shade is called ROSE SAND) with a swipe of mascara.

4.  JOICO K-Pak Luster Lock Instant Shine + Repair

The sun, salt and chlorine typical of summer can really do a number on your hair — this is my secret weapon!

At least once a week, I swap out my standard hydrating conditioner (I love this LOREAL line!) and treat my hair to a JOICO K-PAK deep conditioning treatment. It takes 3-5 minutes of time to let the product really soak in and do its job, so I usually shave my legs and exfoliate while this is all happening. The extra bit of time is worth it, as my hair feels stronger and healthier (especially the ends!) since I started using it.

For the sake of full disclosure, I was originally gifted this JOICO K-PAK product a few months ago — but I truly do like the product and especially the results.

5. Water

Don’t you hate it when you read an interview and the model/actress/person of influence claims that their gorgeous skin is simply the result of drinking a ton of water?!

Well, what’dya know. Let’s all start chugging.

Obviously, I understand the importance of water — especially when it comes to our skin. There are so many different suggestions and opinions when it comes to how much water we should be drinking, but the one that I hear most often (and makes the most sense) is 8 – 8oz glasses of water per day. That’s about a half gallon — the size of a standard milk container.

Why is it that I can put down 4 glasses of rosé no problem, but 4 large glasses of water!? A struggle.

Over the past few years that only way that I can stay on track with my water consumption is constantly carrying around a water bottle with me. I personally love my BKR, although I’ve heard great things about the S’WELL containers (the kids and I got one THIS ONE for Mr. THD for Father’s Day). I also recently noticed that S’well created a line specifically for TARGET, called S’IP BY S’WELL. Anyone tried those out yet? They run about $10-12 cheaper than the traditional water bottle, which is pretty enticing.
