The Stylist Approved Way To Wear Track Pants

Athleisure is going nowhere.

Love it or hate it, the infiltration of athletic inspired clothes into our non-athletic lives is inevitable. A far cry from the Juicy Couture velour sweatpants you wore circa 2002, track pants can in fact, be sophisticated.

Still doubting me?!

Right this way, please…

First off, let’s define track pants in 2016.

In this case, track pants refer to crisp and tailored pants, generally with a sporty stripe down the outside of each leg. The pants should have a slim fit through the seat and hips, with a more relaxed shape down the leg. In order to ensure a flattering fit, select the appropriate length — just above the ankles if a cropped trouser, or long and lean to the floor if full-length is the style you’re after.

Rather than sweat pants you lounge around in on the couch, these track pants should be a stylish cross between a formal tuxedo pant and a traditional track pant. Whether you dress down the look with a bomber jacket and your favorite flats, or dress up with ankle boots and a button up blouse for a more sophisticated take on the trend — this is a fall-ready style worth trying.

After compiling this collage, I realized that I didn’t include the track pant inspired trousers that I had purchased for myself — check THESE bad boys out! They are so flattering (I purchased a size S) and leg-lengthening. You might have also noticed they were featured in a recent Instagram FLAT LAY! I also plan on styling them with a more conservative BLUE + WHITE STRIPED BUTTON DOWN and LOAFERS for a more work appropriate spin on the trend.
