There are pieces in a woman’s wardrobe that should function as the daily workhorses — helping you to successfully navigate your busy schedule stylishly.
Others, should be reserved for those occasions when you simply want to look and feel your best.
The pretty folds of this pleated midi skirt are subtle enough to dress up or down, yet eye catching enough to make a bold statement even with the simplest of styling. New York Fashion Week proved to be the week of the pleated midi skirt, as fashionistas were captured sashaying their pleats all over the streets of NYC. Those ladies clearly wanted to look their best.
Now, it’s my turn.
What I’m Wearing:
I’ve had this ZARA PLEATED MIDI SKIRT sitting in my closet for a month. There have been a few occasions when I’ve put it on, but at the last minute scratched the outfit and went with something more basic. It wasn’t until I saw this MOSSIMO RIBBED SWEATER VEST (hello, $24.99!) on my way out of TARGET that I knew I found the skirt’s perfect partner.
For me, a good outfit is about contrast — contrast of color, style and shape. The pleated midi skirt is so sharp and architectural — not to mention shiny, that I needed something soft, fluid and casual to balance the look. The sleeveless sweater did the trick!
I wore mine layered over the skirt, then used my trusty ASOS LEATHER MOTO JACKET to create a defined waistline and balance proportions. To further enhance the long flattering lines, I added height with a pair of neutral VINCE PUMPS and topped the whole outfit off with my favorite 3.1 PHILLIP LIM PASHLI SATCHEL.
