I cannot believe Thanksgiving is less than 3 weeks away.
I may have told you this before, but Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday of the year. I love a day that can be spent in the comfort of your own home, eating food you love and spending time with those you love most.
No gifting obligations. No religious requirements. Just good food, good fun and good memories.
With only a few days to go before we take our annual Thanksgiving pilgrimage to NY, I started thinking about what I would be packing. While in previous years we’ve shipped our baggage to avoid the hassle of checking or carry on, our kids are old enough now where checking a bag isn’t such a big deal.
Since suitcase space is at a premium, I definitely need a tight collection of all of my favorite pieces to take me from day-to-night and everything in between.
None of these selection should come as any surprise to you, as I’ve been slowly accumulating these pieces over the course of the last 2 years. Since NYC requires a fair amount of walking — I like to focus on comfortable layers that I can add to or eliminate, depending on where I’m going and how cold/warm I feel.
If you’re looking for a CASHMERE CREW SWEATER (#1), I don’t think you can do any better than the $69 staple from Neiman Marcus Last Call. I believe there is also an additional discount being offered today on your purchase! Holy bargain.
You might notice that MAJE VARSITY BOMBER (#13) — I actually don’t own it… yet! I’ve been waiting until the holiday sales kick off to pull the trigger. I love that it’s actually not a true bomber, but a knit cardigan. I think it’s a slightly more feminine version of the bomber trend and one that will be more comfortable for layering this winter.
(Have you heard? They’re expecting another polar vortex freeze this season. Ugh!)
A few months ago, I purchased a METALLIC PLEATED MIDI SKIRT (#16) from ZARA. It’s since sold out, but those pleats are everywhere this season! They also look fabulous dressed up with a SILK CAMISOLE (#3) and PUMPS (#18), or dressed down with an CHUNKY SWEATER (#15), thick tights and ANKLE BOOTS (#8)! I’m planning on wearing it both ways.
Post holiday travel, I’ll definitely be sharing my full photo journal and NYC itinerary so you can see these pieces come to life in their urban element. Over the past week, I’ve been slowly making a hit-list of places and activities to add to my itinerary: a stay at the newly opened BEEKMAN HOTEL, a pedestrian walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, a stop at NOBU NEXT DOOR and I’ve been majorly craving the brunch at JACK’S WIFE FREDA, as well as the pasta at SCARPETTA!
Clearly food reigns supreme in my mind.
