Baby, it’s cold outside and I know it’s not going to get any warmer… at least for the next 3-4 months.
(Yeah, sorry about that.)
Bring on the wool, the down, the cashmere, the shearling and really, anything fluffy and warm.
This time of year, layering can only get you so far, so I think it’s due time we bust out the big outerwear guns.
This season, MILITARY STYLE has taken a front seat when it comes to style trends, so it should be no surprise that double-breasted outerwear is everywhere. From short pea coats, to full-length dusters, the sharp, structured, tailoring of a double-breasted wool coat is a flattering option for any woman.
Some Styling Notes:
Long gone are the days where you needed to spend $300+ for a stylish and warm coat. Today, it seems there are great quality options at ALL price points. When purchasing a coat, here a few quality control checks to keep in mind in order to ensure that you’re getting a coat that will keep you warm and stylish for years to come:
• Look for all natural materials or wool-blends. An all polyester or acrylic coat might look nice at first glance, but will not wear as well as a natural wool or blend over time. Natural wool or cashmere is also breathable and will keep you warm when necessary, but also let air circulate through the material to keep sweat and body odor (ew, I know) at bay.
• A lining can make all the difference. A good quality piece of winter outerwear should be lined in order to give the jacket/coat additional structure, and a better silhouette on the body.
• It’s all in the details. A coat may not be expensive, but look like a million bucks when it has standout detailing in the form of buttons, belts or trim. Also, if you want to make your purchase a true one-of-a-kind, don’t hesitate to take your jacket/coat to a tailor and have the standard issue buttons replaced with your own personal selection. Beautiful buttons can be purchased rather inexpensively on sites like EBAY or ETSY.
