January is a month of mixed emotions.
We’re all excited for what the future holds and all of those resolutions we’re trying to hold ourselves accountable for (step away from the cookies!), yet anxious for the same reasons. We’re happy that the chaos of the holidays is behind us, yet bummed that we’ve returned to the regular grind. Worst of all, if you live in my part of the country it’s freezing, overcast and wet. Like everyday. Really. Kiss those beautiful SATIN ANKLE WRAP FLATS goodbye for the next 3 months.
What it comes down to, is that if you’re anything like me you’re an emotional hot mess.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how we can take control of what can be a pretty sh*tty month. It all starts with a simple change of mind… oh, and a list. Obviously.
1. Give yourself a break.
Whether it’s an hour to read a magazine in a coffee shop, get a manicure, or even watch The Bachelor with a glass of red wine. Schedule at least an hour a day that is just for you. Guilt not allowed.
2. Make Monday the new Friday.
A Case of the Mondays (isn’t Office Space the BEST movie!?) doesn’t have to be such a bad thing. We all make exciting Friday night plans that keep us going throughout the week. Switch it up and make Monday the big night instead! I’m not saying go out and binge drink until 2am, but set a date night with your significant other, or make dinner plans with friends that you like enough to motivate you to put on a bra and leave your comfy sweatpants at home.
3. Plan a trip.
Usually about this time of year, we start thinking about warm weather destinations. Even planning a weekend getaway can break us out of our January ruts and have us thinking all of the happy thoughts. That little trip can inspire you in so many more ways than you’d ever think!
Clearly, my brain turns to fashion first:
4. Try something new.

Here are some new things I’m trying this month:
• BABY FOOT — Because winter feet are gross.
• Meal planning — I’ve already made Asian Peanut Zoodles (see image above!) these CHIA BREAKFAST PUDDING CUPS and a batch of this SPICY SWEET POTATO + GREEN RICE BOWL.

• Hot yoga — I haven’t done hot yoga in over 10 years! Wish me luck.
5. Purge Your Closet.
Sounds like unnecessary work, but you’ll thank me when you’re feeling light as a feather and cleansed of all of those style sins that were lurking back there.
