While it’s fun to get glam every once in a while, 98% of my existence is spent in a relatively casual state either with no makeup on at all, or with just enough to not scare the small children in the neighborhood.
I kid, I kid.
Seriously, though… I would describe my daily makeup look as a “no-makeup makeup.” I definitely did NOT wake up like this, but with a few strategic products and some helpful tips from the folks over at NORDSTROM, I’d like to think I #nailedit?!
Last week, I was fortunate enough to get invited to Nordstrom’s VIP Sneak Peak Beauty Event to get an advance look at the spring beauty trends and products about to hit the retail floor in the next few days.
So, what did I learn?!
1. This spring’s overall beauty theme is simply, feminine.
2. The pretty, “I woke up like this” style can be achieved using 3 types of products: rosy, bronze and nude. You can stick to any of these categories on their own, or mix and match to your heart’s delight.
… but back to the no-makeup makeup look!
Here’s how I got my look and what you need to replicate this on your own:
STEP #1: Start with a clean, moisturized face and apply a moisturizing primer.
This will keep your skin looking smooth and your makeup from sliding off during the coarse of your day. I recently tried out the IT COSMETICS line of products and I quickly fell in love with the #50 SERUM COLLAGEN VEIL ANTI-AGING PRIMER. It goes on so nicely, keeps my makeup flawless and smells amazing.
STEP #2: Use a light tinted moisturizer or CC Cream to even out your skin tone.
The key is let your natural skin show through. I have been a long time devotee of CHANEL VITALUMIERE AQUA ULTRA LIGHT SKIN PERFECTING SUNSCREEN MAKEUP. It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything at all and doesn’t dry out and settle into creases during the day. If I’m looking for a bit more coverage the IT COSMETICS CC + CREAM ILLUMINATION w/ SPF 50 is a new favorite.
STEP #3: Conceal any blemishes and set your makeup with a light brush of translucent mineral powder.
My favorite concealer, hands down, is by RMS Beauty and called ‘UN’-COVERUP (I use shade #22). It’s all natural and the perfect creamy texture to glide on delicate skin. I just started using IT COSMETICS BYE BYE PORES PORELESS FINISH AIRBRUSH POWDER – it’s fantastic! I use an oversized, fluffy brush to lightly sweep the powder over my oilier T-zone area. A little bit lightly tapped on with your finger over any blemishes will do double duty to further conceal those little buggers and keep your concealer in place.
STEP #4: Give your face depth, contour and a natural flush with bronzer.
This is perhaps the best tip I learned from the Nordstrom makeup gurus. Find a natural, low shimmer or matte bronzer and use this one product to do it all! I’ve never used bronzer before — I always thought it looked too orange on me. The pro at Nordstrom introduced me to LAURA MERCIER MATTE RADIANCE BAKED POWDER. It’s silky and velvety, without too much shimmer and shine. It also comes in a wide range of colors for any skin tone, including my own pale one! I was told to take a small fluffy eyeshadow brush and apply the bronzer to the crease to give your eyes some depth and color. I also take a small angled brush and apply a touch of bronzer under my lower lash line. It’s much softer than eyeliner but provides a touch of definition. Lastly, I make a silly pout face and lightly sweep some bronzer under my cheek bones.
If you want a bit of rosy flush, this is where you add a touch of blush — I love CHANEL JOUES CONTRASTE POWDER BLUSH in Rose Pétale. Just lightly swirl it on to the high apples of your cheeks.
STEP #5: Wake your eyes up with a defined brow and lush lash.
It’s amazing what a difference a groomed and defined brow can make. IT COSMETICS BROW POWER AUTO-PERFECTOR 5-in-1 GEL PENCIL come stop the rescue. It takes the guess work out of picking the right color and easily makes even sparse or unruly brows look perfectly groomed. Best of all, it stays on ALL DAY — even through a sweaty spin class.
I sweep 2 coats of CHANEL INIMITABLE WATERPROOF MASCARA on my lashes for naturally separated, curled and voluminous lashes. It doesn’t clump, smear or transfer to my eyelid — scoring high marks from me!
STEP #6: Finish your look with a lip color that compliments your natural skin tone.
The best way to pick the right color for you, is to try to most closely match the color on the inside of your lip. Whether you select a matte or gloss finish is up to you. Speaking of gloss, I picked up a CHANEL ROUGE COCO GLOSS in Icing (#726) and I’ve been wearing it daily ever since. It gives my lips just a hint of rosy pink and simply makes my natural lip look 1000x better! Best of all — it’s not sticky. I hate that.
Is this a makeup look you guys are into? Do you want to see more?
If so, please let me know! I’m slowly inching my way into the video/VLOG pool and would love to put together a step-by-step “How-To” video for you.
