I guess you could call this summer, the season of all things EXTRA.
Extra pattern, extra volume, extra embroidery, extra ruffle — on everything. The maximalist styles of your wildest dreams are now reality. While I love all of this “flare” — both metaphorically, as well as LITERALLY, it’s nice to take a step back and fall back on some easy-breezy, minimalist summer fashion to keep from visual overload.
Hey, they call them classics for a reason.

Some Style Notes:
While minimalist, summer style can look rather expensive, most of the pieces above are under $100 — starting with that basic HENLEY TOP. Folks have been raving about this flowy top for years and NORDSTROM can barely keep in stock. Hello — it’s also $39! As of this morning, all sizes and colors are available — the Dusty Rose is so pretty!
If you’re looking for a great summer clutch to add to your collection, this PINK FOLDOVER STYLE from EVERLANE is one of my absolute favorites. It’s the perfect size and the leather is buttery soft. For under $100, you’d be hard pressed to find something of similar quality.
Easy-breezy, summer style is about streamlining your look and minimizing your effort. If you’re into the undone, beachy-wave hair thing, try air drying your hair. Then spritz this OUIA WAVE SPRAY to define and smooth your natural hair texture. It doesn’t leave your hair crunchy and gives your locks good separation without doing much else! Once my hair is set, I’ll give a few unruly pieces a twist with my flatiron to completely finish the look.
Kristin Cavallari is not exactly who comes to mind when I think of thoughtful, minimalist design, but I adore these SIMPLE SUEDE SLIDES! The comfortable foot bed and block heel easily won me over. The under $90 price tag helped, too.
Everyone needs a black dress in their lives. Don’t shy away from black in the summer season! When done right, like this under $75 AQUA FLOUNCE HEM DRESS, you can still get that light and airy feel — without any of the fuss. Throw a simple denim jacket on top to keep you warm during chilly nights, or when the office manager decides to blast the AC.
So, whad’ya think?
