Newport, RI Packing Guide

Newport RI Packing Guide The Heart's Delight

Pack your bags, we’re headed to Newport, RI!

When planning this year’s NYC/East Coast visit, we were looking for a family-friendly destination that was driving distance from NYC and offered enough activities and luxury amenities to keep everyone (including a picky 6 + 8 yo) satisfied. Enter Newport, RI! With its close proximity to NYC (3.5 hrs) and its idyllic New England charm full of scenic cliff walks, oyster shacks and colorful sail boats, this seaside city was the perfect solution.

I’ll be putting together a full Newport, RI travel guide for you later this summer, but in the meantime I want to focus on what I’ll be bringing along with me. Newport is a balance of old-world, “blue-blood” New England and modern, laid back beach town — just like the outfits I’ll be wearing!

As you can see, I’ve stuck to a limited color palette of neutrals with pops of red and blue. How unintentionally patriotic! I wanted a combination of comfortable separates that could work for both daytime activities, as well as evenings out on the harbor-front. Since I’ll be traveling with 2 kids in tow, I opted for “sturdier” swimwear and one-pieces that can double as a bodysuit when I’m ready to leave the pool/beach/boat.

I didn’t include athletic wear for workouts in my guide, but in case you were curious, I’ll be traveling with 2 pairs of my favorite LEGGINGS + SPORTSBRAS. I adore these slim fit, moisture wicking RACERBACK TANKS — I own them in a few colors. I’ll also be throwing in the softest, coziest CARDIGAN WRAP and my favorite NIKE SNEAKERS. Gotta work off those lobster rolls somehow!

I actually haven’t been to Newport in quite some time — 11 years to be exact! So if you’ve got any great family-friendly recommendations for activities, restaurants, etc. please send them my way.

I’m all ears!

Hi Stella, I have two questions–what color is your cozy wrap? I am thinking of getting it–great travel piece–but torn between black, grey and navy. Second question–I want to find a really good person to help me with shaping eyebrows, and then possibly have my 19 yr old get some help too. She is blonde and has uneven brows, and spends a lot of time on penciling in thick ones. (too thick and dark IMO :)) Mine are also uneven and need work. Do you know anyone in CLE who is good? prefer the east side, but will go west if needed. Once went to the famous NYC brow place–very good but not a miracle worker! thank you!–Jeanne

Hi Jeanne! Apologies for missing this comment — I just saw it! My wrap is from Athleta and it’s a light oatmeal grey. It’s the best travel piece!! As far as brows go, my best east side recommendation for brow shaping is The Powder Room at Eaton Chagrin. Their aestheticians are so talented and they do amazing work! Also, not sure if The Powder Room does this, but I’ve been hearing more and more about microblading. It’s essentaially a pseudo semi-permanent tattoo type process and possibly something to look into for more permanent results. Hope that helps! XO
