How was your first official summer weekend?
Mine was super fun! We hosted my brother and his fiance and spent the last 2 days giving them a grand tour of Cleveland. After we parted ways, I spent some time attacking my closet and doing some much needed editing.
There is nothing like the feeling of a good closet purge to get your week started off right!
I always like taking a moment into a style season to think about which pieces have been getting a ton of wear and which clothes have been simply collecting dust in my closet. As edited as my wardrobe is, it always pains me to admit that I still have way too many clothes. This exercise always reinforces that you really don’t need a lot to put together great style. More importantly, it helps fine tune your personal style and clearly separates the clothing that’s working for you from the clutter.

Generally, I like to pull the 6 pieces that I’ve been wearing the most. Seeing them all together helps me recognize and fine tune my style profile.
Why is this important?
Well, for starters it will make me a smarter and more strategic shopper. For example, yes, I love sky high heels… but you know what!? They don’t really work for my lifestyle. Rather than add yet another pair of unworn shoes to my collection, I now know that I can get my shoe fix with a more practical, yet still stylish BLOCK HEEL.
My most worn collection also helps me zero in on colors that are frequently in rotation. I use this closet intel to add in accessories and new purchases that will blend seamlessly with my existing favorites. For this current batch of favorites, I’ve been working on adding bright red accents either through SCARVES, SHOES, BOLD EARRINGS and the occasional RED LIP.
Lastly, it gives me the confidence I need at times to ditch some of the clothes I’ve been hanging on to way past their expiration date. Yes, that fabulous dress may have brought joy to my life 3 years ago and perhaps I spent more than I should have, but now it’s time to let it go. It’s done it’s part — it’s time to move on. A general rule of thumb: if you haven’t worn it in a year, ditch it. There is a 99.9% chance you won’t miss it.
