I think patio dining/drinking might be one of my top 3 things about summer.
Now that I have children, my time al fresco is definitely much more limited than it used to be back in the day. Kids and long, boozy brunches just don’t seem to mix very well. So when I have an opportunity to head downtown and sit outside sans the menagerie, I’m all over it!
You know what else I’m all over?! Gingham… and distressed denim (in no particular order).
What I’m Wearing:
I love the way the prim and proper gingham print sweetens up a pair of my favorite broken in jeans. Let’s not forget the power of a great pair of jeans! These distressed LEVIS 501s are not only flattering and comfortable, but they keep that aforementioned gingham from veering into saccharine territory. Kind of like a shot of vodka mixed into a tall, icy glass of sweet lemonade.
Since we’re on the topic of vodka — these photos were taken on the patio of TOWN HALL in Ohio City. That local restaurant is probably one of my favorites in the area. There seems to be something for everyone on that menu (even the kiddos!) and no matter what you order you can walk away feeling like you put something good in your body. All of the ingredients used in the dishes served are non GMO and locally sourced. I dream of their brunch menu acai/granola bowl!
But I digress — I’m very easily distracted by food and cocktails! Let’s get back to the summer brunch style.
Another favorite summer style in my weekend rotation is this pair of BLOCK HEEL SANDALS. I’ve been wearing them everywhere, from dressier occasions to a day spent wandering around NYC. The low heel height is really comfortable and the ankle strap provides just the right amount of support. It’s always a good sign when you can walk 40 city blocks without getting a blister or achy feet! Just a heads up — if you’re considering ordering a pair of your own, keep in mind that they do run a bit narrow.
Last but not least, the SUNGLASSES. 10 years ago, the sunglasses were a summer brunch requirement to block my occasionally hungover and puffy eyes from public view. These days, the sunglasses are required to block my eyes from UV rays and (new) potential wrinkles. While I love a great pair of designer sunnies, I’ve found that you can get a great pair of sunglasses without spending a bundle! Remember THIS POST?! This particular pair reminded me of my favorite pair by CELINE when I spotted them in KOHLS. The $15 price tag sealed the deal.
What’s YOUR brunch style?
