Building a functional (and FUN) wardrobe is all about mixing and matching — colors, prints, style and price points.
If your entire wardrobe is designer — what fun is that?
The items that make any wardrobe or outfit most special are those unexpected pieces that bring it all together. These are the pieces that will attract attention and compliments. Fortunately for you, these things don’t have to be expensive. Actually, the most stylish women in the world are the ones who can take a $10 top and make it look like a million bucks.
Up for the challenge?
Just take a look at my H&M shopping list of favorites and practice saying, “Oh, this old thing!? I bought it for a steal!”
Shop The Post:
ONE // Short Sleeve Silk Blouse. How pretty is this blue-grey color? I can think of so many different ways of styling this top for both day or night. As I was putting this collage together I also fell in love with the way the color contrasted with that deep emerald green. Such a pretty color combination for fall!
TWO // Silk Wide-Leg Pants. Pajama dressing has made a place for itself over the past few fashion cycles. Not only are these pants supremely comfortable, but they’re extremely flattering and leg lengthening, too.
THREE // Felt Hat. No fall outfit would be complete without a felt hat. It just gives all of your fall fashion that extra oomph it needs at times. It also helps comes in handy on day #3 post blow-out when your hair is not exactly at its best! I’m speaking from experience here, people.
FOUR // Wool Wrap Coat. A wrap coat is probably one of my style staples. This one is the best shade of light-medium grey and not too bulky. I love the way the belt cinches the waist and helps us maintain that hourglass shape even with layers underneath!
FIVE // Long Denim Jacket. I’ve always been a fan of denim jackets for transitional seasons. This longer, oversized silhouette somehow feels fresh to me. I especially love the way it looks over a slinky maxi or midi dress. One thing to keep in mind when styling this jacket — keep your base layers slim and streamlined. Since the jacket is oversized, you want to ensure that the rest of your outfit is fitted for the optimal results.
SIX // Striped Cotton Shirt. Wear it on its own or layer it under your favorite knit, this striped shirt is one you’ll turn to more than you’d ever expect! It’s one of those seasonless pieces that will work just as well for work as it would on a tropical vacation. Yes, these kind of finds do, in fact exist for under $50!
SEVEN // Slim High Cropped Jeans. Mix up your denim rotation with a bit of broken in grey! One of the things I’ve learned about distressed denim is that it doesn’t last forever. Over time (and many washes) the distressing expands and becomes a bit too much. After ditching a few too many pairs of premium and expensive pairs of jeans for this reason alone, I started purchasing more affordable distressed denim. This H&M pair can be easily replaced when I’m ready for an update.
EIGHT // Suede Loafer. I know the green is a bit crazy, but I think it’s an easy way to add some fun color into a mostly neutral wardrobe. If the emerald color is not for you, the same pair of soft suede loafers are available in black, brown and even red. At under $50, what do you have to lose?
NINE // Long Satin Dress. I’m generally not a big print or floral person, but I can’t help but love a monochromatic and moody print! This wrap dress would be an unexpected choice for a fall or winter wedding. I would find an elegant, narrow belt and cinch the waistline for a polished finish and pair with some seriously sexy heels.
TEN // V-Neck Satin Dress. Speaking of dresses, how pretty is this one? The warm peachy/beige tone is the ideal match for a late-summer glow.
ELEVEN // Suede Slip-Ons. I’ve actually been eyeing a pair of pointed toe slip ons for quite some time. My favorite are a designer Prada version, but as soon as I saw these I knew they were meant to be. I can’t wait to wear them with the silk wide-leg pants above!
TWELVE // Suede Skirt. A simple skirt is made special in a fall-ready green color. In a matter of weeks, suede skirts will be all over your feeds! Why not stand out with a saturated and rich hue? Ground the color with some warm neutrals and you’ll be the belle of the Instagram ball.
THIRTEEN // V-Neck Balloon Sleeve Blouse. With all of the statement tops out there, it’s so hard to narrow them down! Let me make your selection process easier. This one is under $50. I would wear it with those distressed jeans and suede slip-ons… like, right now!
