Belted Blazer

First came the BEST BLACK PANTS, followed by THE ANKLE BOOTS you’re going to be seeing everywhere. Now, we’re headed deep into blazer territory… with a twist, of course!

What I’m Wearing:

Blazer // Skirt // Belt // Shoes // Celine Bag (THIS is similar!)

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, last year’s bombers are going to be sitting this fall out while blazers are going to be getting more active play time. Now, you might be pretty comfortable with a blazer. It’s a classic wardrobe staple, after all. But did you realize that you can breathe new life into your old blazer with a simple leather belt? A belted blazer can instantly give you more shape and turn a casual outfit to something special.

I was so excited when BANANA REPUBLIC sent me this DOUBLE BREASTED FIT STRIPED BLAZER from their newest collection. It’s like nothing I already own and a really fun and flattering piece to style for fall. Rather than go all corporate boss lady on you, I figured I would style it as I would truly wear it — with a playful, more casual edge. More specifically, business up top and party down below with a belt in between!

Since photos don’t always pick up on the small details, I wanted to point out that there is a faint orange stripe embedded in the larger white stripe on the blazer — a special, fun touch. Also, the collar is lined in a cool, grey, wool-felt that can look really cute if you pop it up! Another stylist tip: When wearing a blazer casually, try rolling up the sleeves to give your outfit a bit more style. The contrasting striped lining is another detail that you’d miss otherwise.

My go-with-everything, camel, LEATHER BELT picks up on the tones of the AQUAZZURA ANKLE WRAP SANDALS and ties together (no pun intended!) the whole look. I was fortunate enough to hit up some epic summer shoe sales while in NYC and I instantly knew these shoes would be coming home with me. If you’ve never tried Aquazzura, I highly recommend you do so. The shoes are no doubt an investment, but they are beyond soft and comfortable and generally end up being favorites. How can you not love a shoe you can spend all day in without hating your life and killing your feet?!

Thanks Kate! I do, too. Now that I don’t work in a formal office environment anymore, it’s nice to be able to get a bit more fun and creative with some of the “typical” workwear pieces!

I LOve love love this outfit!! The belted blazer look is something I’ve always wanted to try but never did because I’m afraid of it making me look bulky. But you pulled it off so well!! And the denim skirt and the flatform sandals… ugh you are killing it!! I love!!

P.S. We’re both featured in IFB’s link a la mode this week 🙂 High five!

      Hi, Jessica!

Thanks so much for reading and your sweet note. I agree, you need just the right blazer to get the look perfected. It needs to be pretty slim fitted and not an oversized or draped boyfriend style. It’s become one of my favorite styling tricks to make an old blazer “new” again!

Oh, and a “fist bump” back to you on the IFB feature! Love your blog!

      Have a great weekend,
