Clearly, that in itself is worth drinking to… Cheers, my friends.
A few days ago, I came home to a really thoughtful care package from my friends over at WATERSHED DISTILLERY. Have you guys heard of them? WATERSHED DISTILLERY is a Columbus, OH based business going against the grain (Ha! You like that little pun!?). Their grain-to-bottle philosophy is something that makes their products and flavor profiles unique in what is an über competitive market.
You know me, and my love for all-American small business and entrepreneurial spirit.
You probably also know of my love of a good cocktail.
While the summer months generally call for lighter spirits (vodka, gin, rosé…), during the cooler months of the year darker, spicier and more flavorful “adult beverages” are more my speed. Quite possibly, my second favorite cocktail of all time (only after a well-crafted, dry, vodka martini, “up” with a twist) is the Old-Fashioned.
It’s simple, it’s flavorful and it’s a classic. It also evokes the warm flavors of the season.
I wanted to give the traditional Old-Fashioned a twist using my WATERSHED BOURBON and another fall favorite — apple cider. So, without further adieu, I present to you my “Fall Spiced Apple Old-Fashioned!”
Fall Spiced Apple Old-Fashioned
(makes 1 cocktail serving)
2 oz. Watershed Bourbon
2 oz. apple cider
1 dash bitters
1 tsp brown sugar (optional)
1 slice orange
1 slice apple
1 cinnamon stick
• Pour bourbon, cider, bitters and brown sugar (optional) into your glass, and give the ingredients a good stir — to dissolve the sugar and combine ingredients.
• Add generous amount of ice or single large cube.
• Stir drink well until chilled.
• Add slice of orange, apple and cinnamon stick to glass for additional flavor and garnish.
