(Editor’s Note: I was recently digging through my THD Archives for some late summer/fall fashion inspiration when I came across a post from February 2016.
While fashion can be overwhelmingly trend driven, this post proves that good style is here is to stay. As cool as the slip dress was almost 2 years ago, it’s still just as fashionable today. Different season, hell, different year but still 100% on point.)
Summer may be on its last legs, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to hide yours away!
Shorts are a fantastic style tool to help you navigate that tricky transitional weather. You know, when it’s way too warm to wear pants and you’re not quite in the mood to go full-on dress or skirt. The key to wearing shorts year-round lies in their fabrication. When crafted from the right fabrics and styled appropriately (think tights, boots, sweaters, etc.), shorts can be an incredibly chic addition to your fall wardrobe.
Between the North Korean nuclear threat, the racial tensions/violence in our own country and the terror attack in Barcelona, I’m hesitant to turn on the TV with my kids in the room. I feel as though I say this more and more in the last few years: What is WRONG with people!? I had to have a conversation with my 8 year old earlier this week about kindness and how important it was to be kind to others. I emphasized that his one small act of kindness can entirely change the course of a person’s day. Now imagine if the adults in the world followed the same guideline I gave my 8 year old. I’m not saying the world’s problems would be solved, but man, what an impact that could make.
Now, with all of the heavy stuff out of the way, how about a light distraction in the form of this week’s Friday Link Love roundup!?
I’m also unlikely to step foot into an actual brick and mortar FOREVER 21 store anytime soon. It’s generally too loud, too messy and too chaotic for me. Clearly, another sign of being “old-er.” However, when I quietly browse the FOREVER 21 website from the comfort of home, with coffee in hand I can’t help but click “add-to-cart”… probably more times than I should.
If you’re looking to incorporate a few inexpensive new additions into your Fall wardrobe, these are definitely hard to resist!
Sometimes, you just have to step aside and let the Universe do its thing.
Yes, a pretty bold statement, but true nevertheless. It applies to major life moments and surprisingly, fashion too! While in NYC a few weeks ago, I experienced this phenomenon of fate firsthand. I had a meeting cancel last minute and it left me with some free time before my dinner plans. So what’s a girl to do!?
I’ll tell you what: SHOP!
It all started very innocently when I walked into one of my favorite NYC boutiques.
After moving to Cleveland from NYC, I remember completely overhauling my closet.
Not only was my geography changing, but so was my lifestyle — DRASTICALLY. I went from a corporate bank career to one that was not quite defined (at the time), definitely way more casual, and generally involved spit-up and dirty diapers. Clearly, there was no need for my structured suits and office-formal attire.
So out they went.
Over the past few years, my career is definitely way more defined. My general lifestyle is a good balance of casual days and those all gussied up. Fortunately, those days of spit-up and dirty diapers are long behind me. I’m in a really good place and so is my wardrobe — especially when I have brands like TWO FEATHERS in my life.
A recent MARIE KONDO-STYLE decluttering episode had me evaluating all of my beauty products acquired over time. No matter how minimalist your beauty regimen, why is it that the products seem to multiply!? As I was purging assorted products, one of the things I noticed was that over that past 15 years, I’ve really only worn 3 scents: NARCISO RODRIGUEZ FOR HER, LE LABO THÉ NOIR 29, and BYREDO GYPSY WATER.
All 3 are best described as “earthier,” more-unisex scents with notes of sandalwood, vanilla and juniper. I know, not for everyone. However, they’re very much “me” and isn’t that what a signature scent is supposed to be?
This post is being created rather slowly, as I can barely lift my arms up to type.
My summer workout schedule has been all over the place lately. With so much activity going on and routines constantly shifting, it’s been a real challenge to maintain a consistent groove.
(Do you guys have a harder time keeping up your regular workouts in the summer, too?)
This week, I made a promise to myself that I would make time for 3 workouts before the weekend. Today, I just happen to be paying the price. I’m so sore, sore, sore! Well, at least the hardest part is behind me and hopefully I’ll be back in my regular routine soon enough.
In the meantime, I’m happy to just sit back (gingerly) and share with you this week’s Friday Link Love finds!
I am briefly breaking my moratorium on any Fall fashion talk to bring you this important message: this Fall, over-the-top, embellished shoes will be EVERYWHERE.
Think Cinderella’s glass slipper on a crack bender.
Based on Fall ’17 designer runways, merchandise hitting the stores and just overall fashion buzz, thisseason more is definitely more — at least when it comes to footwear. If you thought WHITE ANKLE BOOTS were a bit wild, buckle your seat belts you’re in for a fashion ride!
As I go about styling my clients — young, old(er), corporate career, work-from-home, etc., I begin to see patterns in the style issues women have and the items that seem to pose the greatest challenges.
These consistent patterns span generations and budgets and after 4 years of doing this type of work, are practically expected. Out of the countless closets I’ve worked with, you might be wondering what the #1 missing item is… you ARE wondering that, right?
Wonder no more: it’s a basic white collared shirt.
