With only a few weeks left of school free summer, I’ve been thinking about how I want to spend these last glorious no-lunch packing, no homework monitoring, no school sports/activities shuttling days. As much as the kids and I have been spending a lot of time together and occasionally grating on each other’s last nerve — more specifically, they’re grating on mine! — I am going to miss this low-key time together. I think about how many more summers I’ll have left before my 8 yo little guy doesn’t want to hold my hand anymore, or if I’m under-appreciating those small moments when my daughter finally declares domination over the playground monkey bars. To be honest, all of this sappy stuff might be the result of monthly hormones. Just in case it’s not, the next 2 1/2 weeks I’ve decided to attack our summer fun bucket list with a vengeance. Which means I actually need to create one… So moms, local NE Ohio/Cleveland residents and all-around creative people — please help a sista’ out!
What’s on YOUR summer bucket list?
Perhaps find all the inspiration you need in these Friday Link Love reads below.
I had the idea to write this post while standing in the room that perhaps sparks my best creativity: a client’s walk-in closet.
Surrounded by clothes, bags and shoes galore, I realized that as I stylist I preach a lot about what constitutes a functional wardrobe. You know, all those classic and timeless goodies we should all own? However, one aspect of a well-balanced wardrobe that’s often not given its due credit is the handbag.
No matter how classic your style, it’s always fun to add a few trend-driven pieces into the mix.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been asked a few separate times about trend predictions for the coming season. My short answer to the question: hang onto your STATEMENT TOPS, ditch the bombers for more tailored blazers, stick with your embellished/frayed/split hem denim and definitely add a pair of fitted satin ankle boots!
If you ask any woman, “What’s the most important piece of clothing in your wardrobe?”, there is a a pretty solid chance her answer will be black pants.
This very scientifically gathered survey information is the result of 4 years of deep digging in the trenches of women’s closets across the greater NYC and Cleveland regions.
Aside from a favorite pair of jeans, black pants are a ride-or-die piece of clothing that anchors the rest of our wardrobe. From long days at work, to wild nights out, where would we be without our butt-lifting, thigh slimming, pair of black pants!?
Now, finding the BEST black pants… therein lies the challenge!
Have you ever had one of those weird limbo weeks where you’re waiting on so many pieces and things to fall into place? Yeah, that would best describe the past 7 days. Between work life and family life, there’s been a lot of risk taking and pushing into unknown territory which is both exciting and extremely uncomfortable for me at the same time. As things sort themselves out (which they always do!) I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about it. In the meantime, I’m just trying to tackle one piece at a time and not get overwhelmed. Hey, I’m a Libra. I like my balance.
I also like some entertaining internet reads, which I’ve got right this way! This Friday Link Love is a good one — make sure to check it out.
Building a functional (and FUN) wardrobe is all about mixing and matching — colors, prints, style and price points.
If your entire wardrobe is designer — what fun is that?
The items that make any wardrobe or outfit most special are those unexpected pieces that bring it all together. These are the pieces that will attract attention and compliments. Fortunately for you, these things don’t have to be expensive. Actually, the most stylish women in the world are the ones who can take a $10 top and make it look like a million bucks.
Yesterday’s post was all about fall (you can check it outHERE!) and might have bummed me out a little.
Why does summer have to go by so fast!?
Today, I’m putting on the brakes and taking a step back. I’ve posted a few times now about my favorite summer accessory — my CULT GAIA ARK BAG. I get at least one compliment on it every time I wear it. Although the summer season is about 3/4 of the way done, I’m constantly looking for the next “it bag” that I’ll wear to death. It doesn’t need fancy labels or a sky-high, designer price tag. I would actually prefer it to be an under-the-radar find that oozes style from across the room.
I hate to break it to you, but these next 4 weeks are going to fly by.
That’s the way the summer cookie crumbles — it takes forever for the summer fun to get started and then it’s over in a blink of an eye (or the honk of the school bus). Before all of the madness of back-to-school shopping and Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes set in, let’s take a moment to address something of great importance: your fall transitional wardrobe.
Whether you regularly work out, are a sucker for anything draped and soft, or just like nice things, this sweatshirt/jacket/little-slice-of-heaven is the best thing you might add to your fashion rotation.
