Did you know that in some countries and cultures, a New Year is welcomed with new window coverings?!
Honestly, I’m not sure quite why… but it’s a fact. I swear, I didn’t make it up.
In my case, I’m also starting off 2018 with a reluctant focus on window coverings — I’ve got 14 of my own to contend with at the house! No matter how many homes I style (my own and clients’), window treatments are probably my least favorite part of the design process. I partially blame this hatred of blinds, shades and curtains on the price.
Ok, I fully blame this hatred on the crazy cost!
Window treatments are one of the most underestimated and overlooked decorating expenses. If you like to feel an enormous pit in the bottom of your stomach and possibly throw up a little in your mouth, just go price out custom window treatments for an entire house. Unfortunately, not only are window treatments a practical necessity (privacy, light control, heat efficiency) but a home can look sad and unfinished until the last piece of decor is beautifully hung in place.
No one wants a sad and unfinished home. So here’s how to fix that — without going broke.
After the past 2 weeks of relaxed holiday fun, family time, elastic waistbands and no makeup — it’s SO nice to be back. Over the (very, very cold) holiday break, I took some time to think about what I wanted to accomplish in 2018. The year has only just started and already I feel as though it’s going to be one of those crazy years full of landmark events and hopefully, great things ahead.
It only makes sense to set the tone for this New Year with something that impacts every facet of our lives: color. Color sets the mood in our homes (and our closets) and after what has been a trend towards a minimal aesthetic, I feel like the black and white world is waking up and leaning more technicolor.
In a year bursting at the seams with social, political and personal highs and lows, I’m hoping that 2018 is just slightly more tame. This girl is straight up beat. With about 3 weeks left to go before our full renovation is complete, you can also imagine how eager I am to get this 2018 show on the road — in our new home!
So, in the spirit of the upcoming New Year, today’s Friday Link Love round up is all about fresh starts, clean slates, celebrating the New Year and few good shopping finds thrown in for good measure. Let’s get to it!
In this era of social media facades, online filters and constant smoke-and-mirror performances, it’s becoming harder and harder to distinguish reality from well, everything else.
Although at times you may feel like your daily life is being held together by a complicated network of duct tape, there is always someone you know that just seems to have their sh*t together. They exude this air of confidence, of professionalism and just general IDGAF (a.k.a. I don’t give a f….) that makes them the envy of the rest of us.
I’m NOT that person.
But I DO know a few little tips and tricks to help you join the “I have my sh*t together” club! Surprisingly, these things are neither expensive nor difficult — so let’s get to it so that the next time you are tired, stressed, or pulled in 1000 different directions, no one has to know…
I know, I know… technically Winter 2017 just started a few weeks ago.
However, us lucky folks in Cleveland have gotten to experience Winter 2017’s frozen “kiss” for over a month now. It’s been generally cold, wet and grey since Thanksgiving with spring still a long ways away. Rather than dwell on the negative, I’m going to try to focus on the positive that is winter style. More specifically, Winter 2017 style staples that will fashionably carry us through the season.
Can you believe we’re heading into the last week of the year!?
Hopefully, we’re all coming out of 2017 another year older and possibly a little wiser. Maybe?!
This year has definitely been one for the books — buying a house, selling a house, moving, renovating, growing a business and generally trying to keep our heads above the strong rip tides of life. If I’ve learned anything through this whole process, it’s to stay focused on your goals and take one step at time in order to reach them. Everything becomes so much more manageable when you break it down — even some of life’s most stressful events. It also helps to have friends and family cheering, supporting and encouraging you along the sidelines. Thank you for that. Thank you for every view, click, comment and question. It honestly makes me so happy and proud to see my little blog flourish into what’s become a virtual village.
It takes a village, right? Well, you’re always welcome in mine.
Enjoy this week’s Friday Link Love finds and make sure to take a moment to appreciate what YOU have accomplished this year. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
A “good sleep” leaves you feeling refreshed in the morning, with added benefits of skin/collagen regeneration and a metabolic boost. You look better AND you feel better — who doesn’t want that!?
Unfortunately, as we get older stress, hormones, and the general patterns of life sometimes get in the way of a good sleep — especially during the holidays. Rather than tossing and turning all night long (because there is nothing more frustrating than THAT), I recommend trying these 6 strategies to get your sleep on!
While I love winter style, it’s definitely the most difficult season to get dressed.
You’re probably getting dressed up more than any other season, yet it’s cold and gross outside. You want to look nice, but you definitely don’t want to sacrifice your comfort and warmth for style. What’s a girl to do?
