My kids made sure to give their mom all of their candy rejects — specifically, their Almond Joys which also happen to be my favorite. I know coconut can be polarizing, but I’m a sucker for those little coconut-almond bites of deliciousness. Don’t yuck the yum until you give it a fair chance — or just give all your coconut candy to me!
Now, onto less-caloric business — a renovation house design update!
Perhaps, I should rename this post, “How To Design Kid’s Bedroom WITHOUT Any Terrible Movie/Cartoon/Video Game Characters + Colors That You Despise!”
What do you think?
When creating a personal space for both kids and adults alike, it’s important to consider the individual’s personality, tastes and preferences. You want the room to feel like an extension of that person, rather than a hodge-podge of things that are thrown together because they look nice. While children may not always have a say in the way things are done (at least that’s the case in my house!), when it comes to their bedrooms you want them to be a part of the design process.
I had a whirlwind weekend in Austin, TX and after coming home yesterday evening, I couldn’t imagine a more appropriate post than one about my bedside. No matter how comfortable and luxurious my hotel room is, I just can’t ever get the same quality of sleep when travelling that I can in my own bed. Needless to say, I’m paying the price today for those late (and very fun) nights out with my girls!
But I digress, let’s get back to the bedside… While in our hotel, I took mental notes of all of the details that made our suite so special. One of the things that stood out was the use of reflective surfaces in the bedroom area. Little touches of glass, mirror and crystal that caught the sunlight and exploded into mini glints of sparkle that danced around the room. I would love to recreate something like that in my own home and add a little touch of femininity to my predominately grey and somewhat masculine, bedroom space.
On my flight home, I started browsing through home design magazines to get additional design inspiration. Below are some of the “research” results:
The combination of mirrors, crystal pendant lighting and crystal accents on the nightstand just add the perfect amount of sparkle to an otherwise dark and moody space.
Let me divulge the current state of life over here: husband working crazy hours, one child in the throes of terrible-twos (with a cold to boot), second child in the throes of aforementioned cold with a hacking-cough icing on top. Oh, and he’s home sick from school… AND it’s pouring and gross outside. The 4 hours of sleep I got last night doesn’t help the situation either. Hope your day is going better than mine!
Every free second I get, I can’t help but picture my bed in all of it’s pristine white glory (please reference photo above- and cue angels singing). I don’t know what it is about white linens, but for whatever reason they give me a sense of peace, calm and sterility (which as you can imagine, is a bonus these days!) No matter what color scheme my bedroom happens to be at the time, the white bedding just seems to tie all of the colors and textures together and create this wonderful visual balance.
Take a look at some great white bedding inspiration:
