Friday Link Love, Vol. 1.78

Friday Link LoveThis season can most certainly be called, “A Tale of Two Winters!”

One day, I wake up and it’s close to 70 degrees, birds are chirping and tulips are starting to poke through the ground. Today, I wake up and there is 2+ inches of snow on the ground with a high of 29 degrees. Last week, I thought I packed away all of cold weather gear and accessories for good — I guess I should have known better! Good thing I’m obsessed with my DANNER BOOTS — at least I have another opportunity to break them out.

This Season’s Best Spring Dresses

Well, what do you know?! It’s May!

The season of weddings, cocktail parties, benefits, graduations, etc. is officially upon us. I like to refer to the next 2 months as the “Season Of The Dress!” — or the season of one too many glasses of rosé!

With so many spring dresses out there, I know it can be an overwhelming project to narrow down the selection and get focused. To make your life a bit easier, I’ve put together a collection of some of my favorite styles — some long, some short, some floral, some graphic — to help every woman find her best spring dress!

Want to know my favorite?

I honestly adore them all, but I’ve had a recent love affair with the brand, SELF PORTRAIT (#14!). Although, not the least expensive of the bunch, the SELF PORTRAIT PEPLUM DRESS is so stunning and unique — definitely a stand out.

Here’s a tip: If you like that cut out lace-work look, but not the price, the marigold H&M MIDI DRESS might be right up your alley! It’s a fraction of the price and the color is oh-so-stunning on tanned skin.

One of the spring dresses I can’t help but love is the NEEDLE & THREAD COPPELIA BALLET DRESS (#4). It’s way more girly than my typical style, but it has such an elegant refined look that would be perfect for a summer wedding! The price tag is also fantastic for a dress with detailed embellishments and a great fit — winner, winner.

How To Look Like You've Got Your Sh*t Together

ASOS lace panel dress helmut lang leather jacket

Did you ever purchase a dress for a special occasion that ultimately got shelved/hung in the back of your closet and never saw the light of day? When I saw THIS DRESS online I was immediately drawn to its bright pop of in-your-face chartreuse color.

What I’m Wearing:

ASOS DRESS // Helmut Lang JACKET (old, SIMILAR) // Louise et Cie BOOTIES (old, SIMILAR)// Prada CLUTCH (old, SIMILAR) // Noir EARRINGS (old, SIMILAR)// Miansai CUFF // Giles & Brother CUFF

So different from my neutral style M.O., right? Sometimes, it’s nice to get out of our color comfort zone a bit. This acid-bright, shade of green also happens to look amazing on brunettes with fair skin. i.e. me!

Unfortunately, comfort won over style in the case of the dress and I decided that in the heat of a summer Florida wedding a whisper thin, silk-like fabric might end up a mess of wrinkles and sweat stains.  It was a good call by me.

Fast forward a few months and my chartreuse muse is still hanging in my closet. Rather than wait for another “perfect” occasion, I thought I could try to mix things up a little and style this dress for a casual affair more in synch with my lifestyle. Enter my army-green leather jacket (SIMILAR) and favorite booties (SIMILAR).

Never thought that army green and acid yellow/green could work together, huh? These photos tell a very different story!

So what are today’s style takeaways?

1) At only $23, this dress is the deal of the season.

2) Don’t overlook great pieces in your existing wardrobe. Before consigning/donating/tossing any style favorite that just didn’t work out, reconsider its purpose. Cocktail dress? Try to dress it down. Simple t-shirt? Try to dress it up. You get the point…

3) When wearing a bold bright, contrast it with a deeper, toned down version of the same color.

Chartreuse + Army Green…

Hot pink + Magenta…

Electric Blue + Navy.

If a chartreuse color pop is just what your wardrobe needs, here are a few more eye-catching finds in some irresistibly bright hues:
