In a year bursting at the seams with social, political and personal highs and lows, I’m hoping that 2018 is just slightly more tame. This girl is straight up beat. With about 3 weeks left to go before our full renovation is complete, you can also imagine how eager I am to get this 2018 show on the road — in our new home!
So, in the spirit of the upcoming New Year, today’s Friday Link Love round up is all about fresh starts, clean slates, celebrating the New Year and few good shopping finds thrown in for good measure. Let’s get to it!
We’re all excited for what the future holds and all of those resolutions we’re trying to hold ourselves accountable for (step away from the cookies!), yet anxious for the same reasons. We’re happy that the chaos of the holidays is behind us, yet bummed that we’ve returned to the regular grind. Worst of all, if you live in my part of the country it’s freezing, overcast and wet. Like everyday. Really. Kiss those beautiful SATIN ANKLE WRAP FLATS goodbye for the next 3 months.
Another day, another inch of snow (or 3?) here in Cleveland.
This is perhaps the most depressing time of year — the holiday joy is long gone, the grey skies have set in and we’re lucky if the thermometer breaks 25 degrees. No matter how warm your winter wardrobe is, it’s never quite warm enough… which is how this January Wish List came about. All I’m craving style-wise (food-wise is an entirely different story and wish list!) is cozy texture, layers and comforting warmth.
Now, let’s discuss a few things starting with those BLACK PATENT LOAFERS. Can you believe they’re real leather and only $29!? Gotta love H&M and their PREMIUM COLLECTION. Currently the loafers still available in most sizes, but trust me, they won’t be for long.
Those PRADA SUNGLASSES have been calling to me for a few months now. Definitely a splurge, but they are such a cool blend of cat eye and aviator style that I can’t help but keep coming back to them – sorry Nordstrom sunglass sales lady! They’re also really comfortable and very flattering on most face shapes. Pair those with that FAUX FUR POM-POM BEANIE and you’ll have yourself a practical and on-trend cold weather look!
OK, and we definitely can’t wrap up without addressing that SWEATSHIRT. I know, I know… it’s just a silly graphic sweatshirt, but I love that it’s not too juvenile and looks fantastic with denim. Just check out MARY SENG of HAPPILY GREY and you’ll definitely fall in love with it too…
It’s a balmy 15 degrees here in Cleveland, with temps dropping into single digits (and wind chill BELOW ZERO) by tomorrow. Pretty sweet, huh? We have been in prime hibernation mode and praying to the homeowner’s god that our furnace can survive this cold freeze. At 12+ years old, you never know!
So, while cooped up in our humble abode, I’ve taken to “window shopping” online for some serious style inspiration. I have to say, it is definitely hard to feel inspired when the world around you is a frozen tundra. Thank goodness for the internet. I’ve bypassed most of the Resort 2014 collections (I’m just NOT ready yet!) and instead, focused on transitional neutral-toned separates that can be:
1) Worn immediately
2) Transitioned into Spring
3) Stored away for next year
It’s also not too late to take advantage of the post-holiday clearance sales- there are tons of great multi-season staples hidden amongst the holiday sparkles and glitz.
Notice the menswear inspired theme? I love the boxy/loose cuts balanced with touches of fitted femininity. A perfect yin and yang in my opinion. I could also see many of those pieces incorporated into next season, next year, etc. Timeless. The best kind of purchases.
Now, I’ve done all of the hard work for you. All it takes is a little mouse scroll and you’ll see (and shop) my “clearance rack” interpretations of the looks above!
