Holy s*$%!!! Thanksgiving is only 2 more days away!
With all of the work, chaos and expense of the renovation, we really couldn’t justify the Thanksgiving trip to NYC this year. I’m definitely homesick and a little bummed. This is the first year in at least 6, that I’m not spending the holiday with my parents and immediate NY family. This is also the first year that I’m not quite as organized and/or prepared for the holiday.
Which ultimately means I have no clue what I’m wearing!
Dressing well for cold weather is no walk in the park… more like a sludge through wind, rain and frozen pellets of snow/ice.
Especially if you live anyplace like Cleveland!
This weekend was especially raw, cold and disgusting and it made me want to go and layer on the thickest, softest sweater I own. My favorite sweaters are those luxe, cashmere knits in classic neutrals that never go out of style and can look perfect (no pilling!) for season after season. However, sometimes when I’m craving something a little bit more fashion forward it’s nice to have cute and inexpensive alternatives.
If you’re anything like me, scarves fall into the category of, “I love them, I want them, but I’d rather buy about 100 other things first!”
Am I right, or am I right?!
Scarves are easily one of the most practical and transformative accessories in our closets, yet why are we always so hesitant to pull the trigger when it comes to scoring that scarf of our dreams? From wool plaid to plush cashmere, winter scarves are going to be the centerpiece of your winter outerwear, so do me a favor, ok!?
Let’s ditch those thin, dinky, polyester poor excuses for a scarf and let’s get down to real scarf business!
Can you believe we’re barreling straight towards Thanksgiving!?
(Heads up turkeys! I’m comin’ for you!)
October totally slipped away from me… and here we are. A little colder, a little wetter and finally experiencing true fall weather after what was a total Indian Summer (a.k.a October).
Each season, I like to share with you the pieces that I’ve personally worn on repeat — you can check out a few of my recent posts HERE + HERE! Sometimes they’re new additions and sometimes they’re the classic investment pieces that I’ve owned for a few years. Isn’t it great when you love something SO much that you can’t wait to wear it over and over!?
This season (Fall ’17), my favorites happen to be an eclectic, neutral mix of textures. Not much bold color or pattern to speak of, but a whole lot of goodness regardless.
It’s the one day of the year where all common fashion sense gets tossed out the window and the style rules of the brothel prevail. I know I’m probably exaggerating (just a little bit), but I just get so frustrated shopping for cute Halloween costumes for women and girls. Everything is so sexualized!
Like, no… I don’t want to be a sexy car wash attendant.
That sexy pizza delivery girl with a skirt smaller than an actual slice of pizza!?
Yeah, I’ll take a pass.
Now, that I got my ranting out of the way, I’ve managed to assemble 3 cute, comfortable and creative Halloween costumes that will make you feel great about your body and comfortable indulging in a few of those candies swiped from the bowl — or your kids’ baskets.
One of my favorite looks of all time has been pretty well documented on this website: a blazer + jeans.
My signature style has definitely been a gradual evolution, shifting from corporate conference room to work from home. However, the one outfit that has remained constant throughout this aesthetic shift is that simple blazer + jeans. Nothing too fashion forward, nothing too fancy, just a combination that I can reach for knowing that it will always look good, no matter the season or occasion.
As you might have noticed, the off-the-shoulder trend has some serious longevity to it. My first post about the trend was way back in 2015!! You can see it HERE.
Over the past year, I think most women I know have invested in some sort of “off-the-shoulder” style to add to their regular fashion rotation. More recently, you’ve probably seen an abundance of off-the-shoulder knitwear more appropriate for the fall and winter ahead.
(All hail, sweater weather!)
Some trends can be “one + done” — meaning you wear that style one specific way and that’s pretty much it. However, the longer the off-the-shoulder trend is going strong, the more I recognize its fashion possibilities.
Here are 2 fresh ways to style the off-the-shoulder sweater that you might not have considered before — at least, I didn’t!
With our big move right around the corner, I’ve started to consider what clothes will be coming with me into interim housing while the renovations are in full swing.
Always a minimalist at heart, I want to ensure that I have all of the essentials necessary to get me through the fall. The fewer pieces, the better. This led me to start categorizing my wardrobe and pulling my absolute favorites from the top of the lists. What I realized, is that there are truly only 4 basics necessary to create my absolute, favorite fall outfit: cozy sweater, fitted pants/jeans, mid /low-heel boots and a neutral coat.
After moving to Cleveland from NYC, I remember completely overhauling my closet.
Not only was my geography changing, but so was my lifestyle — DRASTICALLY. I went from a corporate bank career to one that was not quite defined (at the time), definitely way more casual, and generally involved spit-up and dirty diapers. Clearly, there was no need for my structured suits and office-formal attire.
So out they went.
Over the past few years, my career is definitely way more defined. My general lifestyle is a good balance of casual days and those all gussied up. Fortunately, those days of spit-up and dirty diapers are long behind me. I’m in a really good place and so is my wardrobe — especially when I have brands like TWO FEATHERS in my life.
