5 Summer Outfit Ideas For When It’s Hot As Hades

pool_donut_floatie_hot_summer_header

How was your Father’s Day weekend?

In addition to being fun, relaxing and family filled, mine can be categorized as: balmy, sticky, humid, sweaty, stuffy, hot as Hades. While the temperature might not have seemed so high, the level of humidity was off the charts making everything feel just generally gross.

Outside of locking yourself indoors with Netflix, snacks and the air conditioning rockin’ full blast (actually, that sounds like a really enjoyable afternoon?!), there is really not so much that can be done to resolve the weather-induced icky factor. The best you can do is sit back, relax and let me guide you through 5 looks that will help you beat the heat and stay stylish day-to-night.

1. MAXI DRESS

Maxi dresses are probably the least fussy summer style in your wardrobe. Simple, flattering and easy to wear, the maxi creates a long, flowing silhouette while highlighting your best assets. My favorite styles of maxi always have a more fitted bodice and a loose, flowing skirt that flutters gracefully behind you as you walk, while letting in the air to keep you cool! Essentially, built in AC for the girl on the go.

As an added bonus, maxi dresses are generally long enough to cover your footwear, so comfortable sandals and flats are encouraged! Sweaty, swollen feet + heels of any kind = BAD TIME.

This girl knows what’s up… (it’s Poppy Delevingne, by the way!) Consider your cut-off shorts your boyfriend jeans of the summer and pair them with masculine inspired accents for a total tomboy-chic look. Try the t-shirt on it’s own during the day and top with a well-fitted blazer for an easy, night look. If you’re feeling brave (or looking for a little height boost!) feel free to add a pair of your highest, strappiest, sandals for the ultimate night-on-the-town outfit.

3. LACE

Lace is a beautiful option for adding a romantic/vintage touch to an otherwise modern outfit. Not to mention that lace is a sneaky way to achieve maximum cooling factor, with minimal skin exposure. If we’re getting a little personal here, I think lace is a great way to hide any heat and humidity induced sweat stains that may make an appearance. Simply layer your lace over a nude or colored (for contrast) camisole and you’ll look (and feel) cool as a cucumber.

4. TANK DRESS

A tank dress is THE little black dress for the summer. The primary foundation for all other outfits to build on. The go-to look for effortless, hot weather dressing. Whether you choose an above the knee style, midi length, or full-on maxi, a basic tank dress is a must have in any woman’s summer wardrobe.

Select a style with a hint of stretch for the most flattering silhouette, but try to stay away from a skin tight, painted on look… because that just can’t be comfortable when it’s sweltering outside.

5. HAT

I know what you’re thinking… “I can’t wear a hat!”

Sure you can. You should… and you will! Anyone can pull off a summer hat, especially with all of the styles and colors available this season. From Panama hats to fedoras, the easiest way to amp up your summer look is with this accessory. Hey, it’s practical too– humidity frizz, begone! Fine hair girls, say goodbye to limp locks! Your summer can be filled with endless good hair days with a great hat on your head.

3 Runway-Inspired Hat Trends to Complete Your Fall Look

While I am first to jump aboard the fashion accessory bandwagon, I’ve never been fully comfortable embracing hats.  Whether it was the very round face that stuck with me midway through my 20’s (thank you Russian genetics), or the association of hats with bad hair/”hat head,” I tended to shy away from hats in general and only wore them as a weather related necessity (i.e. commuting across NYC to work in sub-zero blizzard temperatures with major wind chill).  Well, the tide has turned and I can’t get enough of the hats I’ve seen in stores, magazines and on the street.  Hesitations and insecurities begone!  I’m all in on the hat trend.

Below are my top 3 runway inspired hat looks and some copy cats so that you can recreate runway YOUR way!
