I’ve practically been drooling over them since I spotted them come down the runway last year. Ok, if we’re being honest I’ve been surprisingly into ALL things Gucci from the BELTS, to the LOAFERS and to this BAG that I just can’t get out of my head.
It’s been a cold and dreary few days here in Cleveland, BUT it’s the weekend, so hooray to that! This week has been an interesting one full of highlights and lowlights…
The Highlights — My little girl is getting ready for pre-school graduation! I can’t believe in a matter of months I’ll be the mom of two school age children. Holy sh*t.
The Lowlights — My son’s school lost two parents within a day of each other. My heart is breaking for those two families and it was a challenging talk to explain to my 2nd grader why school is cancelled on Monday — the funerals are scheduled back-to-back and many parents, students, teachers and administrators will be attending. Life and death are some of the most difficult topics to broach as a parent and I hope I did the task justice. If anything, this whole exercise was a good reminder of how fleeting and delicate life is. Make sure to give your family and loved ones an extra few kisses and squishy squeezes this weekend… and every day beyond.
Whew, that was heavy… but important to say.
Let’s move onto lighter and more fun things, like this week’s links!
What I’m Reading:
• We focus a lot on how to discover your personal style — here is an article that will help you FIND YOUR DECORATING STYLE! (theglitterguide.com)
• This link is actually more WHAT I’M LISTENING TO… the workout playlist that hip-hop dreams are made of! (becauseimaddicted.com)
What I’m Making:
• My spiralizer and I have mastered our share of zoodles (zucchini noodles!), but I’ve yet to tackle the sweet potato. This CHIPOTLE SWEET POTATO SALAD WITH ROASTED CORN will be the ideal spiralized complement to this summer’s BBQs! (pinchofyum.com)
• Next time you see an abstract art exhibit and say to yourself, “Even I can do that!”… well, actually DO IT. HERE’S HOW! (apartmenttherapy.com)
Pay attention, my footwear loving friends. You’re about to have your mind blown. Not really, but at least your shopping budget won’t be blown.
One of my favorite styles of summer heels is about as basic as you can get. Simply a single sole, single strap with an ankle wrap. I’ve had a MANOLO BLAHNIK pair in my shoe collection for close to 12 years and they’re as on trend today as they were when I fought a 75+ year old BARNEY’S DESIGNER SALEhoarder over them. Really. I almost got into a fight as she tried to steal the shoe box as I WAS STILL TRYING THE SHOES ON! There was definitely major side eye and passive aggressive behavior involved. Not one of my finest retail moments.
… but to the victor go the Manolo Blahnik spoils!!! Take that, old lady with the excessive facial augmentation!
To save you from fighting your way through the crowded (and hostile) shoe departments I thought I would share one of my favorite finds with you. When shopping for a client, I came across these fantastic STEVE MADDEN ‘STECY’ sandals that are essentially a perfect dupe of the MANOLO BLAHNIK ‘CHAOS’. They are also a tiny fraction of the designer price.
No matter how hard I try, I always tend to gravitate towards the same combination when I get dressed each morning. An easy body-skimming tee, a great fitting pair of jeans (or shorts), a casual flat, and if weather dictates, a waist cinching topper for it all. Occasionally, I worry that people think I wear the same thing every day (#myuniform). Seriously, I would if I could! But since society might frown upon that, instead I’ve just relished in my addiction to these great pieces and sought out the best-of-the best at every price point. There is nothing better than finding the perfect wardrobe basics that you have in constant rotation, except finding those same wardrobe basics for a STEAL.
To be honest, I never thought I’d be writing a post about leather apparel mid-summer, but I can’t help but gush about my new favorite closet addition. It’s sleek, it’s black, it’s surprisingly lightweight and it’s classic- something I can see myself wearing season after season, regardless of what the weatherman forecasts. The dress also speaks for itself, so it’s best to keep the rest of the look simple and fuss free- a pair of sexy heels, a solid clutch, a bold lip and you’re out the door. Exactly what a busy girl needs when she has a total of 30 minutes to get ready!
Oh, and full leather disclosure- I couldn’t contain myself and also purchased these shorts (on SALE!). How awesome are those perforated leather panels?
