Summer Beauty Favorites

In theory, summer beauty should be about effortless ease… at least that’s what all of the magazines are selling with their bronzed and glowing model spreads.

In reality, summer beauty probably takes about 1000x more work and effort than any other beauty routine during the calendar year. From hair removal to sweat prevention, frizz control to faux tans, real summer beauty is way more complicated than we as consumers have been fooled to think.

6 Summer Beauty Essentials You NEED To Try

6 Summer Beach Essentials You Need To Try Jergens NARS CeraVe Laura Mercier Zoya L'Oreal The Heart's Delight Stella Compiseno

Everywhere you look, someone seems to be touting the “next-best-greatest-thing-you-never-knew-you-needed.” I’ll admit, I’m no beauty expert, but I can tell you one thing, I’m a tough critic.  After years of fine tuning my summer beauty routine, I can steer you to the best beauty essentials on the market that are tried and true, will get you out the door looking and feeling your best and with time to spare, because as we all know, #aintnobodygottimeforthat.

L’Oreal EverCreme Nourishing Leave-In Spray

During the summer months there is nothing worse than the battle against the frizz.  Really, no one wins. Your best defense against weather induced “pouf” is to be proactive with your conditioning and smoothing products.  A well nourished hair shaft, is a happy hair shaft.  I’ve tried many different leave in conditioners and hair oils, but this one wins my top prize for being extremely effective, sulfate free, botanically based and CHEAP.  Under $10, people.  Top that.

CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion

Summer can wreak some serious havoc on your face.  Between the sweating, the sunscreen and general sun exposure, my skin definitely needs a change of pace from my heavy winter moisturizer routine.  A few years ago, my dermatologist (who has the most flawless skin, by the way) recommended this brand for my stressed-out, postpartum, hormonal skin.  I’ve been hooked ever since. Even when I add a more expensive moisturizer into the mix, I always keep a stash of CeraVe on hand to use when I think my skin needs a little extra non-comedogenic love.

Laura Mercier Metallic Créme Eye Colour

I’ve always been obsessed with the sultry, metallic, bronzed, smoked out eye for a hot summer night. Unfortunately, heavy makeup and heat do not play nicely together in the sandbox.  After a bit of trial and error, I found the perfect formula to create this makeup look: cream based eye color.  I first prime my lid with makeup primer, or a light dusting of matte ivory eye shadow, then I use my finger to apply this cream shadow.  The messier, the better.  No creasing, no smearing… just perfect come hither eyes with little to no effort.  Laura Mercier, I owe you one.

NARS Matte Multiple

How could I not include the update to the NARS cult favorite?  I was introduced to the “matte” version of this product a few weeks ago and have been using this stick daily on both my cheeks and lips.  The “Anguilla” is the perfect shade of peachy pink that will compliment a tan without adding too much color, or sheen.  Ideal for those hot and humid nights when you’ve got a natural glow… because ladies, we don’t sweat, we glow.

Jergens Natural Glow

We all know by now that the permanent skin damage inflicted by suntanning is just not worth it.  Right, people!?  Sunless tanning products have come so far since their initial release and are now much better scented, more effective and essentially, goof proof.  If a professional spray tan application is not in the cards, I highly recommend you give this at-home Jergens product a shot.  I’ve been using it since the spring and since the product is formulated to work over multiple applications, the results are totally natural looking without any orange hue, or tell-tale streaks. My legs have never looked better… or tanner!

Zoya Nail Polish in Farah

I think they’re nothing chicer than a subtle nude nail on summer skin.  Inevitably, as much as I enjoy bright colors on my tips and toes, I like to tread back into neutral territory and this Zoya color is my go-to choice. Picture your favorite cup of coffee with a ton of cream and sugar added into it… THAT’S the best way to describe ‘Farah.’  An opaque, creamy beige with slightly grey undertones, this shade will flatter any summer complexion.
