One of the challenges of gainful employment is finding a balance between your office wardrobe and your off-duty style.
Even if you work in the most casual environment, there is generally a notable difference between the types of clothing you’d wear to the office and the fashion you’d wear during your off-duty moments. Buying two separate wardrobes is not really a practical option — for both closet space and financial reasons.
It’s the only appropriate greeting after shooting this outfit deep in the heart of Texas.
While packing for Dallas, I made some last minute additions to my suitcase when I saw the forecast — hello, 75 degrees and sunny! One of the items I threw in was my basic cream silk EQUIPMENT BLOUSE. It was a last minute switcheroo for a much heavier, chunky sweater I was planning on layering with my new denim pinafore.
Yes, after THIS post, I couldn’t resist and jumped on the TOPSHOP DENIM PINAFORE DRESS. A note on fit: definitely size up on this piece — I bought a US size 6 and it fits perfectly!
What I’m Wearing:
ASOS Leather MOTO JACKET // Equipment SILK BLOUSE // Topshop DENIM PINAFORE // Acne Studios Suede Booties (no longer available, but THESE are similar!) // Chanel Boy Bag (check out THIS steal version!) // Chloe Sunglasses (no longer available; THIS is a similar pair!)
… But let’s get back to that blouse!
A silk blouse is something I always recommend that my clients add to their permanent wardrobe. Regardless of age, personal style and lifestyle this blouse is a flattering and versatile investment that will never go out of style and can be worn a number of ways. As with any wardrobe staple, I can’t emphasize enough that you should try to purchase the best quality item within your budget — so no polyester, rayon, synthetics… 100% silk is absolutely the way to go. The drape and softness of the real thing is really difficult to match.
You’ve probably noticed that delicate, little ribbon bow at the neckline by now… Would you totally die if I told you it was a $1.99 black satin ribbon I purchased at my local craft store? Actually, I purchased an 8 yard roll of the satin ribbon for $1.99. Rather than go out and purchase a new BOW TIED BLOUSE (THIS is a great steal version!) which I’d been pining over for months, I decided to get creative. Clearly, creativity pays because I received so many compliments on my blouse and outfit at a conference cocktail event and no one even considered that it was a rudimentary DIY undertaking.
The moral of my story is never be afraid to repurpose existing wardrobe staples and give them new life… You may just surprise yourself with a fabulous outfit!
